چکیده

We initiate a detailed and systematic study of automorphisms of the Cuntz algebras On which preserve both the diagonal and the core UHF -subalgebra. A general criterion of invertibility of endomorphisms yielding such automorphisms is given. Combinatorial investigations of endomorphisms related to permutation matrices are presented. Key objects entering this analysis are labeled rooted trees equipped with additional data. Our analysis provides insight into the structure of Aut(On) and leads to numerous new examples. In particular, we completely classify all such automorphisms of O2 for the permutation unitaries in ⊗M2. We show that the subgroup of Out(O2) generated by these automorphisms contains a copy of the infinite dihedral group Z ⋊ Z2. MSC 2000: 46L40, 46L05, 37B10

Exactness of Cuntz–pimsner C–algebras

Let H be a full Hilbert bimodule over a C-algebra A. We show that the Cuntz–Pimsner algebra associated to H is exact if and only if A is exact. Using this result, we give alternative proofs for exactness of reduced amalgemated free products of exact C– algebras. In the case that A is a finite–dimensional C–algebra, we also show that the Brown–Voiculescu topological entropy of Bogljubov automorp...

C-bialgebra defined by the direct sum of Cuntz-Krieger algebras

Let CK∗ denote the C ∗-algebra defined by the direct sum of all Cuntz-Krieger algebras. We introduce a comultiplication ∆φ and a counit ε on CK∗ such that ∆φ is a nondegenerate ∗-homomorphism from CK∗ to CK∗ ⊗ CK∗ and ε is a ∗-homomorphism from CK∗ to C. From this, CK∗ is a counital non-commutative non-cocommutative C ∗bialgebra. Furthermore, C∗-bialgebra automorphisms, a tensor product of repr...

Characterisations of Crossed Products by Partial Actions

Partial actions of discrete groups on C∗-algebras and the associated crossed products have been studied by Exel and McClanahan. We characterise these crossed products in terms of the spectral subspaces of the dual coaction, generalising and simplifying a theorem of Exel for single partial automorphisms. We then use this characterisation to identify the Cuntz algebras and the Toeplitz algebras o...

C*-algebras Arising from Group Actions on the Boundary of a Triangle Building

A subgroup of an amenable group is amenable. The C*-algebra version of this fact is false. This was first proved by M.-D. Choi [9] who proved that the non-nuclear C*-algebra C*(Z2 * Z3) is a subalgebra of the nuclear Cuntz algebra €2. A. Connes provided another example, based on a crossed product construction. More recently J. Spielberg [23] showed that these examples were essentially the same....
